We had an excellent vacation through Nordic Visitor. The expertise of our tour guide and small group size of 16 enhanced our experience. We had a good blend of free time and tour related programs. We did arrive 2 days early to Stockholm and stayed an additional 2 days in Bergen. We found this time beneficial to explore the areas more.

The plan was just what we wanted and the actual trip delivered just that. Nice balance of scheduled events and free time in the cities visited. Hotel locations were excellent and our tour guide was always available and helpful for additional questions and suggestions.

About Small Group Tours in Scandinavia

We’ve collected the most commonly asked questions and queries just in case you want to know more about our Scandinavian packages before you book. If you want more in-depth information on booking and the payment process, then please see our FAQs below or get in touch with us.

A small group tour is where you travel with a group of fellow explorers and a knowledgeable local guide, who’ll lead you on your Scandinavian journey. We keep our group tours at 16 people maximum because we want you to enjoy a personal experience, in which you can get to know your guide and learn all you can.

Discover why guided small group trips in Scandinavia are one of the best European group tours for solo travellers

The price of each package differs depending on the itinerary and the date you choose. Once you find the package you want to buy on our website, add in the dates and accommodation options and our automated 'Find Your Price' system will calculate the final price for you.

When you book a small group escorted tour, the majority of the hotels and activities are booked and secured so we offer set dates depending on the package. These dates are available to view on the package page, or you can get in touch with our travel consultants for more information.

We advise that you first search for estimates for flight times and prices, then book your package online to secure it. Once your tour is confirmed by email, you can purchase your flights. If you have missed out on flights, please get in touch with us to change the dates of your tour.

You can extend your vacation by a day or more at either end of the journey. This means you’ll have more time to explore locations such as Stockholm at the beginning of the trip, or Bergen at the conclusion of your group tour. Ask your travel consultant if you want to add extra nights.

If you’re interested in starting off your stay with some sightseeing, we also offer optional bookable activities for extra days. Packages including Finland also feature optional pretours of Helsinki on the first day.

When you book our escorted tours, you’re guaranteed that the best accommodation is booked and activities are arranged, so we can offer flexibility by adding on days to the beginning and end of the tour, but we won’t be able to fully customise the package.

For an even more adventurous Nordic Visitor experience, we can also extend your trip with visits to Iceland, Scotland and Greenland. Contact us for details about custom packages.

We offer a variety of accommodation options to suit all travel needs. Our Comfort Plus and Superior options all include a comfortable and quality room as well as a tasty breakfast to start the day -- the main difference is in the type of hotel or guesthouse.

Comfort Plus is a standard room in a quality three-star hotel or well-appointed guesthouse.

Superior is either a standard room in a four-star hotel, a deluxe room in a premium three-star hotel, or the highest quality property available in each area.

All Nordic Visitor-approved establishments are hand-picked by our local travel experts and regularly checked so we’re sure they reach the right quality standards for you.

The weather in Scandinavia can be unpredictable, and weather conditions may change quickly, so bring warm or insulated waterproofs, and extra thermal layers just in case. Our tours through Scandinavia involve coastal cruises and train travel as well as outdoor activities and sightseeing, so be sure to bring comfortable footwear and a hat or cap in case it’s sunny.

For a more detailed idea of what to pack, check out our Norway packing guide.

We carefully choose our hotels for comfort and practicality so they are often in the city centre within walking distance of the stations. If you find the distance to be too long with your luggage, we recommend a short distance taxi ride, which can be arranged at the reception of your hotel.

Transfer points and connections are easy to find and clearly marked in the train and ferry stations. You will receive your ticket, information about transfer points and timings with your final travel documents.

During your trip you will need to transport your own luggage with you onto the next leg of your journey, so we recommend bringing a light suitcase on wheels. For added comfort during your Norway in a Nutshell journey, your luggage will be picked up in Oslo and will be waiting for you in Bergen, so remember to pack an overnight bag for your night in Flåm.

To ensure comfortable seating for everyone on our tours, we limit the size and amount of luggage each guest can bring. Each guest may take one suitcase or large bag, and one smaller item such as a small backpack or day bag for daily essentials like cameras, purses and medication. If you have any questions about luggage, your Nordic Visitor travel consultant will be able to assist you.

Tipping your Scandinavian tour guide is entirely at your discretion. Should you want to show your thanks for your experience with a tip, we’re sure your guide would appreciate it.

We welcome children over the age of 12 to travel on our escorted tours.

A daily breakfast buffet is included at your booked hotels and cruises for the duration of your stay. You will also enjoy five dinners with the group, included in your package. They will include either a set 2-3 course dinner menu or a dinner buffet with a good variety of fresh local ingredients.

Please notify your travel consultant in advance of any dietary restrictions. Other meals and drinks are not included and will be at your own expense during the trip.

Many tours include a fair amount of walking when sightseeing. This means you need to be prepared and able to walk between 3-5 kilometres during days where sightseeing tours are included. You also need to be able to carry your own luggage when boarding trains, buses and ferries.
