The world's happiest country
Denmark is the smallest of the three Scandinavian countries, located on the Jutland peninsula in northwest Europe. It only has one land border, to Germany in the south, and consists of many islands off its mainland.
One of these islands, Zealand, is the site of Denmark’s iconic capital city Copenhagen. This city is popular with visitors for many reasons. Here you’ll find historic, colourful streets, a thriving art scene, rich local culture and experimental restaurants.
Denmark is well-known for its Viking history, which ties it closely to its neighbours Norway and Sweden. You’ll be able to learn a lot about the Vikings on your visit, with many museums, sculptures and works of art dedicated to them.
Modern Denmark is perhaps best-known for its ranking as one of the world’s happiest countries. There are many reasons given for this, one of which being the Danes’ lifestyle practise of hygge, a concept which roughly translates as “cosy satisfaction and conviviality”.
