Impressive natural formation
With its surrounding steep cliffs and dark pine forest, the Styggforsen waterfall adds a dramatic touch to the natural beauty of the Dalarna area. The unique geological formations are the result of both an ancient meteorite crash and the eroding forces of the last Ice Age.
At the parking lot of Styggforsen Nature Reserve, 20 km (12 mi) north of Rättvik, you will find a cottage with an information centre and small cafe (open in summer). From there, you can follow a 750 m (half mile) path to the “troll cave” at the foot of the waterfall.
