Historic craftsmanship
The small Rättvik Church in the Dalarna province boasts some magnificent medieval artwork. The original murals have been recovered and restored and the four-metre tall crucifix dominating the interior of the church is believed to be German craftsmanship from the 14th century. There are also some spectacular medieval woodcarvings of the patron saints Olav and Stephen as well as an elaborate altarpiece. The church is surrounded by no less than 87 horse stables that were built for those that attended services in its heyday.
