Magnificent Swedish fortress
Örebro is a magnificent Medieval castle set on an islet in the middle of the Svartån river. Constructed in the 13th century as a defence tower, the castle was expanded during the reign of the House of Vasa in the 16th century and rebuilt around 1900 in its current form. Some of the castle's numerous rooms are used as auditoriums for a local school and large parts of the castle are open to visitors with a programme including art exhibitions, concerts and guided tours.
