Classical architecture and gardens

There is something decidedly reminiscent of a fairy tale when you look at the impressive Gripsholm Castle, perched on the shores of Lake Mälaren and dominating the skyline over the small town of Mariefred. It’s also known as Gustav Vasa's castle, after the man who built it in 1537.

If you’d like to immerse yourself in 400 years of Swedish history, take a guided tour of its majestic rooms and atmospheric corridors, as well as its impressive collection of portraits. There are also impressive grounds to stroll around, including a nature reserve with wild deer.
