Ruins of an ancient fortress

Borgholm Castle was built in the second half of the 13th century, but rebuilt many times in later centuries. The castle was destroyed in a fire in 1806. The castle that stands today is the ruins of the 17th century baroque palace that Charles X Gustav had constructed and it‘s open for visitors and houses a museum.
