Historic and walkable city
Borgholm is a great historical town in Sweden, as it clings to its age-old city status despite its small population of just around 3,000 inhabitants. Formerly a spa-town dominated by the ruins of the once majestic Borgholm castle, it now acts as a centre for Öland, one of the most popular summer resorts in Sweden. The Swedish Royal Family has a summer house just outside the town and the Crown Princess Victoria celebrates her birthday each year on the 14th of July in the town’s sports field.
