A mysterious ancient site
Ales Stenar (Ale’s Stones) is a megalithic site and the largest preserved "ship setting" in Sweden. The large stones date back to the Bronze and Iron Ages and are set in the layout of a ship. It’s not known what function the stones may have had throughout the ages or what the ship setting symbolised for the people who created it.
For years, the Ales Stenar site has enthralled people, and while there are many theories about what the ship was for, one thing is certain: it’s a huge attraction today. Around 750,000 visitors each year are drawn to the site.
