Home to more than 200 sculptures by the artist
One of Oslo’s most popular attractions, Vigeland Sculpture Park features the life works of Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943), with more than 200 of his sculptures. The various works in bronze, granite and wrought iron depict life in its various stages. Among the most notable – or at least most photographed – pieces are “The Monolith”, “The Wheel of Life” and “Man Attacked by Babies”. Vigeland was also part of the design and layout of the park itself.
Completed in the 1940s, it is the world’s largest park dedicated to sculptures by an individual artist. Although it is located within Oslo’s Frogner Park, it is wildly known for the Vigeland art installations, which visitors come from far and wide to see. The park is open to visitors all year round, but in the summer, it is especially popular amongst locals for sunbathing, sports and picnics.
