Great spot to learn about polar expeditions
As Tromsø has long been an important base for arctic expeditions, a stop at The Polar Museum (Po-larmuseet) is worthwhile to learn more about the region’s seafaring adventures and its history of hunting and trapping. The various exhibits cover the lives of famous explorers as well as the ships and equipment that were essential for life on the sea in harsh arctic conditions.
The museum, part of the University of Tromsø, is located in the old Customs House on the quayside in the historic Skansen area of the city, and the exhibit hall is housed in the 19th century Sea Warehouse (Sjøhuset), the oldest part of the complex.
