Iconic design where you can walk on the roof
The Oslo Opera House is a striking modern landmark located right by the Oslofjord. Its sharp, angled roof appears to rise directly out of the water, creating a dramatic silhouette. Visitors can walk up the sloping marble roof for panoramic views of the city and harbour. The design encourages people to explore and interact with the building, making it more than just a theatre.
Inside, the opera house offers world-class performances, including opera, ballet, and concerts. The interior is elegant and bright, with large glass walls that flood the space with natural light. It is home to the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, as well as the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra.
Completed in 2008, the building has won several architectural awards for its innovative design. It’s not just for performance lovers, many come simply to enjoy the unique design and the lively atmosphere around. The surrounding area features cafés, public art and a waterfront promenade.
