Immerse yourself in Norway's astonishing maritime past
You’ll find the Norwegian Maritime Museum right by Oslofjord’s chilly waters, close to the Kon-Tiki Museum.
The museum tells the story of Norway as a seafaring nation. As you walk through the displays, you’ll see how Viking ships once ruled northern waters, and how later fishing and trade shaped everyday life. The exhibitions also cover Arctic expeditions, showing the bravery of sailors who ventured into ice-filled seas in small wooden vessels.
Inside, you’ll discover ship models, films, maps, and tools used by sailors through the centuries. Outside, you can step aboard historic boats and watch craftsmen at work, keeping traditional skills alive. When you’ve finished exploring, the waterfront paths around the museum make for an easy stroll with peaceful views over the fjord.
