Awe-inspiring marvel
Temppeliaukio, known as the “church in the rock”, was designed in 1969 by the brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen. This fascinating work of architecture is an engineering feat carved out of solid granite, and the thick rock walls are topped by a massive concave copper ceiling, giving it excellent acoustics. The church is often used as a venue for musical events and has become one of the most popular attractions in Finland’s capital.
